Stabilized tricoloracetic acid is a particular solution of highly concentrated acid solubilized in a specific solvent.
This solvent reduces the corrosivity of the acid and reduces its acidity thus preventing the epidermal protein degeneration that would be obtained by applying any TCA to the skin. At the same time, it increases its penetrating capacity in the deeper layers of the dermis.When the medium-deep layer is reached, the acid is released from the solvent so that it can break down the old collagen fibers and stimulate mature fibroblasts.
TCA in contact with old collagen causes its denaturation by liquefying it. Denatured collagen increases in volume, giving immediate lifting effect to the tissue. Denaturation simultaneously stimulates mature fibroblasts to produce new fibers.
